Sorry people but I've just watched this and really I don't see what all the fuss is about.. Come on guys it really ain't that bad!!!

It can't be too bad, I read on Dynamo's twitter that he was part of it too ?

I don't use props, so this doesn't really affect me.

Ive just watched it on Five's website - can't see what the fuss is all about. The stuff they showed in the first part is pretty much the kind of stuff that everyone comes across in the first year of taking up magic as a hobby....

The stuff in the second half....well, if specs think you need a £32k zoom lens or a £120 pen to perform mindreading then let them go ahead and think it....!

If that gear constitutes your entire act, I would humbly recommend reading a few books and dumping some of those gimmicks....

I really wouldn't worry - at the very least, it might encourage some more people into magic.

Sometimes people in the magic community really get my goat. One tv programme shows a TT and the next thing you know toys are being thrown out the pram and magic is coming to an end!

No wonder I refuse to go to conferences and clubs. Bunch of geeks and people with too much time on their hands at times.

Calm down, take a deep breath, go down the pub, have a pint, meet some people without talking about magic and live a little. It'll all be ok.

Anyway I may just go tell a stranger that Uri Gellar was bending them forks manually and Derren used a camera trick in the lottery special...

Does it honestly matter? With all the gimmick that have been mentioned, if they are being used correctly then nobody will even suspect they are being used.

The amount of people who say to me "I have one of the plastic t**** thingies, do you use one?" is unbelievable. I say no, then I will ALWAYS perform a bill switch as my next effect. They never even twig.


Seriously, dont worry about it. Theres more important things happening in the world....

once again, Ill say that it wasnt what they exposed. It was how they did it . I felt that they were taking the micky out of us.
The scenes shot in house of mystery,( where both Pat and Simon controlled things) kind of worked.

Has anyone thought that exposure might lead to some people getting into magic. That exposure might increase sales of the product rather than harm it? Do spectators really remember the method?

When you are at a convention and walk around the dealers, which products are you most likely to purchase? I bet you it’s the ones that the dealer explained the gimmick or method.

As Mark mentioned above, the TT if used correctly will never be noticed. It can be exposed as much as you like, it’s our job to learn and fool people with what we have. I have heard it a couple of times about the spectator figured out the method due to exposure rather than the performer not performing the trick properly.

This is just something to think about. I DO NOT CONDONE EXPOSURE.

All this technology and they (the lay audience) are still amazed by a DL or a one-ahead.

I don't watch the show, but find it wryly amusing that a gadget-and-gizmo programme can stand there with a straight face and talk about "there are more important things in the world".

Am I the only one who enjoed the Gadget Show?
They exposed the TT as did Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum and the Wizard Ring as did the Masked Magician. I'm sure Paul Zenon, Dynamo, Magic Tricks and World of Magic were happy with their free PR.
On the plus side they promoted magic and made it entertaining. I thought the 2 presenters performed really well. The guy cycling past with the wrong name on the wrong giant card was hilarious.
