The Effect http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3453

Jack Leick’s Ingenious variation of the classic Die Box

In all magic there is probably no sucker effect to compare with this splendid trick. There are several methods on the market having varied features, but we offer what we believe to be the finest and best outfit for packing the greatest effect.

A hat or other container is placed on your table. A solid wooden die is introduced, also a handsome red box having two compartments and four doors. These four doors are opened and with the audience looking in the front, the die is placed within the box.

With the four doors open, the audience is given a view of the die inside the box. The doors are closed.

The magician now commands the die to leave the box, opening first one side, then the other, showing the box to be empty(?). The audience hears the die slide from one compartment to the other.

After the usual by-play the magician shows the die has vanished and appeared back in the hat or container.

Cost £62.96

Difficulty 2
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review
ok, ok i know what your all saying its just another die box and essentialy you are correct, but and this is a massive but and take it from an exponent of the die box, this little gem comes with a little adaption.
its in plain view in the photo and its this adaption that alows the special move, you can place the die fairly into the box faceing the audience and by mearly showing the back you can vanish the die.
now please take a moment to read that again, the die is clearly visible right up to the point you show them the back of the box and close it up.

Overall
what can i say but buy this one its better than the classic four door front and back version, and the collecters version sorry and feel free to pm me for additional final loads and extra tricks.

Die Box different versions

Postby Martin Le Guerre » Jun 25th, '04, 17:53

Tracing this back to the Mak Magic site there seems to be a previous version which is much cheaper. I'm tempted to buy the latest version but at £62 I'm wondering whether the cheaper version might be just as good?

Do you have any knowledge of the older version that you can comment on the differences? I have no idea how either of them work but I'm guessing that maybe a different method is used which is more effective in the latest version?

if the previouse version is green as you don't suply a link then they are essentialy the same type of die box but the new one has a certain shall we say section missing that allows a certain other something to be placed faceing the audience then repositioned before you start the fun.
i got mine at the auction for less than £60 but would pay full price now that i know the extra adaption, it makes the vanish seem impossible.

 think of it as a raven coin vanish, you see the coin right up to the point it is'nt there.

Well, that's not entirely true is it?

Perhaps David Williamson's striking vanish would be a more appropriate analogy.

Sorry, I just like pick holes in other people's posts. Its very immature and highly repugnant but i think it's fun.

Sorry.

All the best,

same as a raven vanish you see the coin right up untill its covered by your hand, it at this very moment that the special move takes place to vanish the die, exactly like a raven vanish.

at least in the spirit of things, in my handleing of the box the die is placed cockeyed in the top with all top doors open and the fronts closed, the front doors are opened individualy and when the second door is opened the die falls into its space and is clearly seen untill it is turned aroud ie covered by hand as in raven example, the move is done and the doors closed and it is then turned around you cant get a fairer die vanish than that with this type of prop and i have had five different version's of this trick so i think i can speek from some sense of athourity.

but each to his own. :P
