Sharing my Magigram Joy!

Postby philipsw » Nov 11th, '07, 17:15

I hope you will forgive this little celebration - I thought some of my TM friends would understand...

Back in June 1986 I started subscribing to The Magigram. Like many others I can remember the anticipation of the magazine arriving with a satisfying thump through the letter box every month. Wonderful articles to read, adverts for tricks I could never afford at the time, but I would seek to solve (and in many cases make poor cardboard versions of !). And a couple of times the pride of little things I had written ending up in print.

I continued collecting without missing an issue until the sad demise of Supreme, taking me through to February 1995.

Then, like so many, I had a period out of magic, which lasted for about 7 years. Since I have been back in magic, the wonders of the Internet existed, and so by various means I have been gradually 'backfilling' my catalogue - sometimes an issue at a time, sometimes buying larger collections.

I have just opened and checked my latest purchase, and have finally completed a COMPLETE Collection. All the way from Volume 1, Issue 1.

It makes me very happy :-) And now I hope to start going through them from the beginning and seeing what gems I can find. (And my wife hopes I don't decide to start collecting another mag!)

Sorry for that self-indulgent display. But hopefully some of you will understand...

Great news,

I'm not sure they'll be worth anything in a few years monetary wise but they are a great magazine. I picked up a volume (18 I think) at a magic auction for the grand sum of £3. I was thinking they'd make good kahzi reading given there size.

From the few I've read they have a wealth of great articles and ideas as well as some fantastic tricks to try out. It's a bit of a catalogue but its amazing what you could pick up for a few pounds back in the day.

Enjoy the read, I might look to pick up another volume at the next auction
