hi there:D i have a big arsenal of tricks and learn a new trick every week or a new move....

but.... i forget some routine handlings or whole routines...

does any one know how to fix this? i made a list of all my tricks but i know i know more tricks then i wrote down:P

does anyone have a list with like al different kind of effects

like

transposition
3card monte
2 card monte
prediction effect
sandwich

? does anyone have such a list:D im talking only about card tricks now:P combi s are fine too like matrix or pixel etc

and if u do how do u divide the tricks in ?

i my self think its the best to divide them in
BIG STACK
5 or lower card STACK
Gimmick card needed
Gimmick deck
Impromptu

these will be the ones you use a lot.. so you remember them.

I have a simular issue with card magic.. I couldnt remember how to do Gemini twins a couple of months ago, and its self working!!

Its only because i hold it back, as a filler should i need it.
The stuff i do lots, i can always remember.

haha yes:P i always get a new trick:P and i practice it whole week Razz

then weekend comes and i try it out in the pub... and then they ask he can u do one more:D? and after a few tricks i just dont know any other tricks:P or i forget a piece of the handling like Out of sight out of mind last time:S

but im going to make a huge list tonight:D going through al my dvd's xd

I have written lists in the past classified into core effects ie: colour change, prediction, find a card, transpositions etc. You wouldnt want to have an act that consinsted of too many of the same type of effect, for example all colour changes. I also take into consideration how the audience percieve the effect, demonstration of skill, mindreading, magic.

Remember that you don't need 101 card tricks, put together a couple of routines of perhaps 3 or 4 tricks and stick with those for performing. By all means learn the other tricks but keep your performance repertoire small. If I'm doing a close up gig, I'll probabaly only have about 4 or 5 effects that I'll perform.

There is a great anecdote in RRTCM about a young magician approaching Nate Leipzig with the words "I know 300 card tricks, how many do you know?" Where to Nate Leipzig replied "About 7 or 8, I think"

I think there is a great difference between being "that guy who can do all sorts of amazing things with cards" and "the magician who made me think of a card and it changed its colour right here in my hands".

Eugene Burger talks about every moment of an effect being meaningful and important. Likewise, every effect should be meaningful and important - never just a "filler". You do this because it is mysterious and beautiful, not because you were doing card tricks already, so you might as well throw one more in.

Perhaps try to cut down on your repertoire. As has been said above, you don't need to know 1001 tricks. I know it's difficult when you're performing for the same audience (in your case in the pub) fairly regularly but perhaps try to list the effects you do most often/ you get the best reactions from and keep those as your 'core' routine, then have a seperate list of stuff you just try out and it won't really matter if you forget. Also, try and take the same effect but present it in a totally different way on a different night (which should fly in a performing situation). basically, I'd say that if you're sometimes forgetting whole routines then you have to many effects. Hope this helps!
