As with many effects, performing more that once to the same audience is dangerous (unless there are several handlings which you can vary...)

The audience will burn you every step of the way the second time, and although it's tempting with tricks such as ID or Brainwave Deck because they are so astounding, it may be prudent to leave the audience with more mystery.

The first time you perform any trick to an audience, it is a positive thought to remember that they do not know what is coming... therefore you've nothing to hide. The best tricks are the ones where you are so far ahead of the audience that all that's left to do is lay down your patter and enjoy the rest of the performance... BUT - if you repeat the same effect instantly, there's always a danger that someone will notice that 'move' which will kill the effect.

Remember, also, that every member of your audience is potentially out to catch you out...

I couldn't agree more. I have been very tempted in the past to repeat a trick but I always try and remember the phrase "to leave them wanting more". When I am in amongst a group, I try where possible to catch people "one to one" through out the day or evening and then I get the enjoyment of performing the same trick lots of times and getting fresh reactions. If you perform it to the group, you can only get the buzz once.

'The buzz' as you refer is one of the fundamental parts of the performance. Magic is a form of communication, and when you feel you've connected with someone, especially one-on-one, through magic, there is a spooky moment where you feel like you've changed their lives.

Magic is a superb icebreaker, too, for the same reasons.
