I preferred The Prestige, personally

Me too, The Illusionist was a bit too much of a 'girly' love story for my tastes.

Me too, although I did still enjoy the Illusionist.

The Prestige is running on Sky Movies recently.

I watched The Prestige first and absolutely loved it! It seemed hard to follow at first, and watching it a second time helped me understand a lot of things. I personally didn't think the Illusionist was nearly as good as the Prestige, but still enjoyed it quite a bit. (I'm not big on romance movies; while this wasn't entirely a romance movie, I felt what drama there was only served to slow down the movie...)

I would still recommend seeing both.

i wish edward norton had played the main character in the prestige rather then the illusionist.

I think The prestige was by far the better film, but i think Ed Norton is a great actor if not one of the best.

I'm sorry but Ed Norton is a gimp!!!

Christian Bale is a phenomenal and very dedicated actor, I mean just look at how much weight he dropped to play in the machinist?! And he was still able to secure the role of Batman Begins even while auditioning that emaciated!

But yeah the Prestige was a much darker film which I preferred (My GF preferred the Illusionist, 'nuff said!)

Ive seen the prestige in the cinema, before I was into magic.

Fan-F***ing-tastic.

OMG can't believe you just called edward norton a gimp? did you ever see American History X? he played that part so well. The Score? Fight Club?

i mean come on, a great actor.

Christian Bale in the machinist was also very good, i forgot he was in that film, he looks so different.

I rest my case, someone who can alter their appearence so drastically that you didn't even realise it was him in the film, that's dedication!!!

Ok calling Ed Norton a gimp might be a 'bit' harsh as he was good in American History X, and he was very good in Fight Club, but he did play the role of the gimp in Fight Club when compared to Brad Pitt as his alter-ego.

True, but he plays that role so well, which lead me to conclude that if nothing else, he is excellent at acting like a gimp

But is he really acting, or just being himself??!!

Was he acting or being himself in 'The Score'? (You'll know what I'm on about if you have seen the score) i thought he played that part well.

Altering your appearance drastically for a movie is dedication.... but the money sure is a nice compensation!!!

I was lucky enough to work with Christian Bale on 'Reign of Fire' and can report that he is an all round top bloke!! (although he did almost accidently have my eye out with a big knife!)

Any film that manages to squeeze in magic, Victorian London and the great Nicolas Tesla is already on the path to greatness in my book.

Also, it's kind of hard to compare The Prestige/Illusionist to one another. Each fills it's own niche perfectly and it really depends what type of film you're in the mood for: Intelligent Hollywood Blockbuster brimming with stars and top drawer special effects/sets/etc.. or a quieter, almost art house piece with a dream like quality that can really sweep you away... if you're in the right frame of mind. (hmm.. enough of the Barry Normans.. and why not?)
