Overview
This DVD will take a dextrous beginner to the next level in no time at all. There is something for everyone but the particularly versed card performer. I prefer working with cards simply for accessibility. Everyone has a pack of cards at home, if not just make sure you have one in your pocket! All tricks within are performed with a plain old regular deck of cards, except one... with which you need just one extra duplicate card. From the fundamentals, which are an absolute necessity for a performer, to four great routines (Which I have performed time and time again, never failing to generate fantastic response!) the content here is fantastic.

High Points
The routines will definately have people talking about you for ages. Daryl's Hot Shot Cut is one of the best ways I've found to reveal a card. For anyone who doesn't know it, the effect is as follows...

Magi holds cards in left hand, cuts the deck with one hand, a card rises out from the split, and spins over to the right hand which catches and reveals! It truly is amazing, and not as astoundingly difficult as you might think. I had it nailed in about an hour...

Low Points
Whilst there is a lot of material on this DVD, for someone who is quite versed (as I am) there is a fair amount of stuff to go through. A lot of the stuff is aimed at the beginner (basic methods of holding the cards, etc.) If you can get over this, it's not too much of a problem.

As I mentioned before, this DVD brought my card skills up to the next level. With a few tricks and fancy finishes, you can go from someone who just knows a trick or two... to someone who can truly captivate audience. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this to someone who is starting out at card magic. You will probably astound yourself!

This DVD is aimed particularly at the card novice and I have to admit that it was one of my favourite DVD's when I was learning more card skills. I'm sure that Kati will agree as he's another regular advocate of this particular title I still refer to mine from time to time.

I also still perform all of the four card routines that are taught on this DVD on a regular basis. As you suggest, they're strong but surprisingly easy to learn.

If you're looking for a DVD and you're new to cards or wanting to improve with that little more pace then I too would recommend this.

I did a forum search in reviews, and didn't find it! It suprised me, hehe.. But as you say, it can't hurt having more than one opinion.. =o)

the DVD is really good.and i love oz very much.

i have bought ths product one year ago ... but when i perform card magic whith some new friends and i need some quick and strong effects i use yet the ones of this dvd. And always whith success
Some magicians in my club dont respect the "new-young-.magicians-of-internet" like oz, but it is an error : i think that people kike oz are very important for the magic .

Yes, Born to Perform is a very good DVD; it was the first DVD I bought on card magic. Before that, I've stuck to books like Expert Card Technique, but never got through to finishing it. I like the way Oz teaches and the fact that he includes clips of himself street performing the effects he teaches is awesome. It shows you that what he's showing you works. He also seems like a favorite amongst the penguinmagic forums

Yeah, it's certainly set me on the right path.
I've been working through B2P in tandem with Royal Road and performed ambitious and monte for the first time at the weekend. Both went really well - and now I'm soooo hooked.

Hurrah for Oz!

I'll be saving some of those flourishes for a long time in the future, mind..

This is a great review of the Oz Pearlman DVD. It has prompted me into buying it and having a look for myself.

Review

Let me just say WOW, this was my first magic DVD and one of my first magic purchases and I loved it. I find Oz Pearlman to be a good teacher, what he does is do the trick at full speed then go through how to do it slowly, he then does it faster and moves on to the next trick. When I got confused or felt he was moving too fast, all I did was start the trick from beginning because he explains everything well and if yo miss it just rewind. One thing I didnt like was the way the DVD was setup, first there are the fundementals, then he goes to the routines which use some of the stuff that has not been shown yet but is ahead on the DVD. For example he uses the Hindu Shuffle COntrol but that is under Controls which is after the Routines- THIS IS THE ONLY FLAW IN THE DVD. What I loved about the DVD were the four routines, first he did them on the streets and then explained what to say and how to do everything- step by step. I also loved the cuts, they are very easy to do and after watching the DVD 2x, I got them down but just need to master them.

Overall

10 out of 10. I love this DVD and Oz Pearlman is a great guy and teracher, hes also very young. I reccomend this DVD to any beginner.

EDIT: I gorgot to say ALL THE ROUTINES are impromptu.

It should be noted, wingman that Ultimate Transpo is not ENTIRELY impromptu, since you need something else. It can SEEM impromptu, but you can't be handed a deck and perform that trick exactly as the dvd teaches.

True, you need a deck and any extra card, I dont know if that reveals too much....

I received my copy of this DVD a day before I went on holiday so I was unable to look at it until last night.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who recommended this as a good first card magic DVD. It is simply superb. All the reviews I have rad tell it as it is. The quality of the DVD is fantastic, Oz is brilliant as a performer but also as a teacher.

I will many, many hours in fromt of the TV watching this and learning.

So far my only source of learning has been the Royal Road. I know the book has its detractors but I like the academic style of the teaching in it. Oz puts the polish and performace on to what I have picked up from thje RR.

On another note I had two weeks in Cornwall. We had great weather and I took my cards and RR to the beach virtually every day. My wife soaked up the sun and I had hours to practice. I am trying to master the Charlier cut at the moment. I found that sand does brush of cards quite easilly many, many times

Oz presents the DVD excellently. This DVD actually can take you from a total novice to an intermediate magician with those routines.

I've always found it more exciting and easier to learn visually rather than from a book (OK, a book is visual but you get what I mean). I have heard nothing but good reviews about Born To Perform and I can see that the good reviews will continue.

I myself would call myself an intermediate magician but I always find it nice to brace up on my skills and tone it up by referring back to this DVD from time to time. Excellent stuff.

Ok I've had Born To Perform for about a week now and it is everything I hoped it would be! Prior to this I was going through expert card magic and just plodding on through the slieghts, but this dvd really gets you in the mood for performing. Oz is a really good teacher and he's a great performer. Actually one of my favorite parts of the dvd is just watching him perform!

Misdirection and pace of performance is shown very well on this dvd, and I think that's the best thing I've got out of this dvd. I can now see how I can build misdirection into my patter and the way I perform all my magic will change (improve!) as a result. I never thought I would get away with the card to mouth phase of ambitous card, but I performed it to some friends and it worked! The look on their faces was amazing, and I can't wait to perform it again. I feel that in just under a week I have vastly improved and it's all thanks to this dvd!

What I would say to people though about learning from dvd's is that you can tend to just clone the performance style. I found myself doing this a bit and I'm going to work on my presentation to personalise it alot more. I think it is important that people bare this in mind (especially beginners!).
